Who or where to turn to for help with car payments.?
I am 62 years old, lost my job in '06, lost my home this year, have no income whatsoever, (exhausted unemployment benefits), have sent out hundreds of resumes, can't get hired. Have been living on a retirement pension since April and have $1200. left. I'm desperate and panicking. I have faithfully been making $300. car payments plus $75. insurance payments, and now I just can't do anymore. I tried to get Subaru Chase to reduce the payments and promised to continue paying, but they will not negotiate at all - even in this economic crisis. They would rather repossess the car ( a 2005 Impreza), worth less than I owe. I can't refinance because I don't have a job. I don't know what to do. Without a car, I can't look for jobs. Frankly, I don't have any hope that my life will get any better. My car is my home when I can't find people to stay with for a short time. I don't want to collect Social Security. I want to work and am capable of doing so.
