How long will someone stay in jail on their first offense?

My friend is a recovering drug addict. He had a relapse, and stole a video game system and watch from his cousin for money. His cousin reported it, not knowing it was him that took it. My friend didn't sell it, but met with the police officer and was arrested for burglary. The cousin is not pressing charges. This is my friends first offense. He had his arraignment on Friday. The judge said because his bail was already set, he would need a 2 day written notice for something and because of that they could not release him that day. His court date is this Friday. He's going into a day treatment for chemical dependency when he's released. Will he be released on Friday? Or will they sentence him longer?
